Let’s talk sub bass — that deep, wobbly magic that rattles your neighbour’s teeth and either makes or breaks your mix. Whether you’re producing techno, trap, or just want your track to hit harder than your caffeine habit — this is for you. I’m gonna break it all down into four tasty chapters. Let’s dive deep — literally.

Intro Preview Chapter 1: Understanding Sub Bass Chapter 2: Sound Design & Source Selection Chapter 3: Processing Sub Bass Chapter 4: Mixing & Monitoring for Low End Accuracy

Course Details

Goal: Set the foundation by explaining what sub bass is and why it matters.
Topics that we cover:

  • Common mistakes (muddy low end, inaudible subs, too much energy)
  • What is sub bass? (typically 20Hz–60Hz)
  • The role of sub bass in different genres (EDM, trap, techno, etc.)
  • Psychoacoustics: why we feel sub more than hear it

Goal: Show how to create or choose the right sub bass sound.
      Topics that we cover:

      • How to test your sub on different systems (headphones, monitors, car test, etc.)
      • Synths vs samples for sub (sine waves, triangle, clean waveforms)
      • Layering tips (sub + mid bass)
      • Analog vs digital sources (and why clean subs matter)

Goal: Teach techniques for shaping and controlling sub bass.
      Topics that we cover:

      • Sidechain compression (for kick-sub balance)
      • EQ (high-pass other elements, low-pass subs if layered)
      • Compression (when to compress, and when to leave it dynamic)
      • Saturation/distortion for harmonics (to make sub audible on smaller systems)

Goal: Show how to get sub bass to translate well across systems.
      Topics that we cover:

      • Final mix checks (mono compatibility, system referencing)
      • Monitoring setups (subwoofers, headphones like Audeze LCD-X, Blessing 3, etc.)
      • Visual tools: spectrum analyzers, goniometers, oscilloscopes
      • Room acoustics and traps
