In this course, I build a Hot Creations-style track from the ground up, sharing my full creative process—from digging samples and crafting drums to designing basslines, hooks, synths and final layers. I reveal my workflow, influences, and techniques to help you produce powerful, peak-time house records with character and groove.
Course Details
In this chapter, I explain my connection with Hot Creations and set the stage for the course, outlining my approach to building this track from scratch and sharing how I shape my creative mindset when producing with the label’s distinctive sound in mind.
I play and break down some of my previous Hot Creations releases, highlighting key elements like simple but powerful drums, strong basslines, and unique hooks. I explain how I dig for vocals and samples, and show how inspiration from classic house influences my modern production choices.
Here I show how I hunt for special vocals and samples, often digging through vinyl to find hidden gems. I bring a vocal into the project, time-stretch it, and start sketching ideas, demonstrating how an unexpected sample can spark the creative direction of a track.
In this chapter, I build the drum foundation using classic 909 and 808 sounds. I focus on groove, swing, and layering percussion while keeping things simple but effective. I show how I jam, experiment, and trust feel over perfection to create a driving house rhythm.
I explore bass sounds and patterns, auditioning different synths to find a deep, groovy line that locks with the drums. I explain my preference for impactful notes, subtle movement, and how I tweak the bass to give the track character and energy on the dancefloor.
I begin working the vocal into the groove, chopping it and looping phrases to find a catchy hook. I experiment with timing, effects, and placement to make the sample blend musically with the beat while adding identity and vibe to the track.
Here I introduce melodic elements, searching for rave-inspired synths to create a standout hook. I record and refine the riff, showing how a strong synth line interacts with the bass and drums to elevate the track and drive the energy forward.
I start enhancing the arrangement with crashes, string pads, rides, and subtle percussion layers. I shape space and dynamics with effects, preparing the track for arrangement while ensuring each element adds texture without overcrowding the groove.
