Course Details

In this chapter, I introduce Captain Chords and explain why I use it in my own productions. I talk about how it helps me overcome limitations in music theory and piano playing, and how it can spark new ideas by suggesting chord progressions and melodies I might not naturally think of. This is a quick overview of the tool and what it can do.

Here I show how to load Captain Chords into your DAW and set the key and scale to match your track. I demonstrate how to start building chord progressions, adjust octaves, complexity, note length and inversion, and how to shape the groove to sit with your drums and overall vibe. Itโ€™s all about getting familiar with the core workflow.

In this chapter, I walk through routing Captain Chords into external synths like the Korg M1 or Serum. I explain how to explore preset chord progressions and rhythms, then tweak them to suit different genres. Youโ€™ll see how to experiment with timing, melody variations, and workflow options to guide your creativity.

Here I show how to export your Captain Chords patterns as MIDI or as rendered audio loops. I also demonstrate adding built-in effects like reverb and delay before exporting. This makes it easy to drop your ideas straight into your project, commit them, and quickly shape them into finished parts.

In this chapter, I explore Captain Chordsโ€™ own sound library and show how to browse and use genre-specific presets. I demonstrate randomizing chords, experimenting with bass and melody layers, and starting ideas from scratch. Itโ€™s all about using the tool to spark inspiration and build from simple musical foundations.
